Bushfire WATCH AND ACT for south of the South Coast Highway in the Dalyup area, west of Esperance in the Shire of Esperance A bushfire WATCH AND ACT remains for people to the south of South Coast Highway in the Dalyup area, west of Esperance, in the Shire of Esperance. This includes people in the following streets:• Murray Road• McCall Road• Moonanup Road• Chartwell Lane. • There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing.• You need to leave or get ready to actively defend. • The fire started between Telegraph Road and Keenan Road. It is burning towards Murray Road.
BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:• The bushfire is moving fast in a south westerly direction.• It is out of control and unpredictable.• There are significant flare ups on the western edge of the fire.• Flames are higher than roof tops and may burn into tree tops.• A wind change is expected later this afternoon from 3pm. The winds are shifting from East-North-Easterly to South Easterly. This may push the fire in a North Westerly direction and people need to keep up to date.
WHAT TO DO:• If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.• If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now. • If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.
SAFER PLACE: • Your safest option may be to visit family or friends who live away from the area.
ROAD CLOSURES:Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on siteA number of roads have been closed including:• Murray Road at the intersection of the South Coast Highway• Chartwell Lane • Access roads to Eleven Mile Beach through to Roses Beach• Crisp RoadRoad information may also be available from Main Roads WA by calling 138 138 or visiting www.mainroads.wa.gov.au.
WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:• Around 60 Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service and Parks and Wildlife firefighters are on the scene. • Firefighters are working to build containment lines and fighting the fire.
EXTRA INFORMATION:• The fire was reported at 3.18pm on Monday 4 January 2016. • Approximately 3300 hectares have been burnt.• The cause of the fire is a reignition of a previous fire which was caused by lighting. • The Shire of Esperance is managing the fire.
