ALERT LEVEL:A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people between Eleventh Road, Forrest Road, Tonkin Highway and Armadale Road in Haynes and the northern part of Hilbert in the City of Armadale.The fire started in grassland between Forrest Road, Eleventh Road and Wollaston Avenue in Haynes. It is now contained and under control.Firefighters will remain on scene overnight to monitor and patrol the area and extinguish any flare-ups that may occur. There is no threat to lives or homes but there may be smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. WHAT TO DO: • Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.• Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.• Read through your bushfire survival plan.• If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.
IF DRIVING:• Be careful.• Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.• Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
ROAD CLOSURES:Roads are now open.Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. For further details contact Main Roads WA on 138 138. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:The bushfire is contained and under control. There is currently no active fire. Firefighters are expecting strong and gusty easterly winds this evening which means that flare-ups may occur. This means you need to keep up to date.WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:Thirty five career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters are on the scene establishing a mineral earth break and mopping up. They will remain on scene overnight to extinguish any hot spots and flare-ups that may occur and patrol the area. Two helitacs and the aerial intelligence helicopter were assisting but are no longer required. The incident was reported at 5.24pm today, Saturday 9 February. CAUSE:The cause of the fire is unknown.
