The fire is burning in scrub near Weaber Plain Road, and is moving away from the built up area.

 

There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

 

WHAT TO DO:

Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.

Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

Read through your bushfire survival plan.

If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

No roads are closed.

 

Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.

 

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

The bushfire is moving slowly in a north eastern direction, away from the built up area.

 

It is out of control.

Approximately 100 hectares has been burnt.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

About ten Kununurra Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Ivanhoe Bush Fire Service firefighters are on the scene.

Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire which is burning in inaccessible terrain. 

 

The incident was reported at 11.36am yesterday 25 May.

 

CAUSE:

The cause of the fire is unknown.

 

AGENCY RESPONSIBLE:

The Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley is managing the fire.
