Western Australia Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements

Federal and state governments provide a range of relief measures to assist communities severely affected by an eligible natural disaster event such as bushfire, cyclone, earthquake, flood, landslide, meteorite strike, storm, storm surge, tornado or tsunami.

Relief and recovery assistance can only be considered once a proclamation has been declared under the Western Australia Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (WANDRRA).

More information is available in the WANDRRA overview document below.

What is the assistance for?

The measures are intended to provide assistance for the recovery of communities and are offered on a needs basis. The arrangements provide for:

WANDRRA assistance does not provide:

  • Compensation for losses suffered
  • Assistance where adequate insurance could have been obtained. Insurable assets such as houses and vehicles will not be considered eligible under the WANDRRA.
  • Assistance for the following which are not natural disasters for the purposes of the WANDRRA:
    • Drought
    • Frost
    • Heat wave
    • Epidemic
    • Events where human activity is a significant contributing cause including poor environmental planning, commercial development, personal intervention (other than arson), or accident
