A BLOCK of flats, apartments or a duplex that has one owner and, therefore, receives a single rates notice is classified as a residential multiple property.
The maximum residential charge does not apply to residential multiple properties as this would provide a significant and unfair saving for the property owner.
The maximum charge for a residential multiple property is calculated by multiplying the number of flats, apartments or units by the capping that applies to a single residential property in the area.
For example, in 2019-20 the maximum ESL charge for a block of 12 residential apartments with a classification of ESL category 1 is: $5,292 ($441 x12).
