Bushfire ADVICE for Harvey/Dwellingup

ALERT LEVEL:

A bushfire ADVICE remains in place for people in the Harvey-Dwellingup area for a large bushfire in State Forest between the Harvey River and Willowdale Road. Approximately 9700ha have been burnt.

 

No private property is threatened by the fire. The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) will release further advice as the situation changes.

 

WHAT TO DO:

People wishing to travel in the area need to be aware road closures are still in place.

 

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

The fire behaviour has been erratic due to heavy fuel loads that earlier caused embers and spot fires over containment lines.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Personnel from DEC, local volunteer bushfire brigades from the shires of Harvey and Collie Shires, Worsley Alumina, the Forest Products Commission, FESA and local contractors worked through the night to consolidate and strengthen containment lines and to tie the northern edge into areas that had been burnt four years ago. in prescribed burns and bushfires.

 

Up to 100 personnel from the agencies today will continue to consolidate the boundaries and begin mopping up. Water bombers also will be used.

 

The fire was reported on Sunday morning. Its cause is considered ‘suspicious’.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

A number of roads have been closed and motorists should avoid the area. Closures are:

·         Quindanning Road and Honeymoon Road junction

·         Harvey-Quindanning Road and Boundary Road

·         Tallanalla Road and Myles Avenue junction

·         Nanga Road and Nanga Brook Road junction

·         Logue Brook Dam Road and Clark Road junction

·         Driver Road, Hoffman Road and Willowdale Road junction

·         Hoffman Road and Larego Road junction

·         Driver Road at the Murray River crossing

 

DEC will inspect roads and review road closures throughout the day. Roads only will be reopened once they are declared safe for traffic.

 

Further clarification should be sought from WA Police or Main Roads WA on 138 138.
