A RED ALERT is current for people in or near Cotton Creek and Punmu.

Destructive winds with gusts to 130 kilometres per hour are possible at Cotton Creek and Punmu until midnight tonight.

Gales with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may extend reach Giles and Warburton tomorrow afternoon.

Heavy rainfall is falling over the eastern Pilbara with rainfall totals in excess of 100 millimetres possible near the south side of the track.

The following roads are closed:

Motorists should avoid the area and should not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
