ALL CLEAR is current for people in and near the communities of Cotton Creek, Punmu, Telfer, Woodie Woodie and Nifty.
Wind and storm surge dangers have passed but take care to avoid the dangers caused by damage such as fallen powerlines, trees, broken water and sewerage lines, loose roof sheeting and other material.
At 11pm Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be 60 kilometres southeast of Cotton Creek and 580 kilometres west northwest of Giles. It is moving southeast at 24 kilometres per hour.
Gales with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may reach around Giles and Warburton this afternoon.
Heavy rainfall, up to 150 millimetres is possible near the southern side of the track.
The following roads are closed:
- Ripon Hills Road from Marble Bar to the Telfer turnoff
- Telfer Road
Motorists should avoid the area and should not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
There is no fuel at Sandfire Roadhouse. When Great Northern Highway reopens motorists will need to refuel at Pardoo or Roebuck Roadhouse and be prepared to travel for 500 kilometres without refuelling.
