Tropical Cyclone Laurence Blue Alert for Giles and Warburton

A BLUE ALERT is current for people in or near the communities of Giles and Warburton.

 

You need to prepare for dangerous weather. Secure or remove loose material from around your home. Ensure your emergency kit is complete and check your family knows what to do.

 

ALL CLEAR is current for people in or near the communities of Cotton Creek, Punmu, Telfer, Woodie Woodie and Nifty.

 

Wind and storm surge dangers have passed but continue to take care.

 

CYCLONE LOCATION

 

At 8am Tropical Cyclone (TC) Laurence, category one, is estimated to be 370 kilometres west northwest of Giles and 280 kilometres northwest of Warburton.   

 

It is moving southeast at 26 kilometres per hour.

 

ROAD CLOSURES

 

The following roads are closed:

 

  • Ripon Hills Road from Marble Bar to the Telfer turnoff
  • Telfer Road

Motorists should avoid the area and should not drive into water of unknown depth and current.

 

Fuel is now available at Sandfire Roadhouse on Great Northern Highway.
