All Clear for Pilbara Communities

An ALL CLEAR is current for people in or near the communities of Giles, Warburton, Cotton Creek, Punmu, Telfer, Woodie Woodie and Nifty.

 

Continue to take care to avoid dangers caused by damage such as fallen powerlines, trees, broken water and sewerage lines, loose roof sheeting and other material.

 

The CYCLONE WARNING for central parts of the interior district has also been cancelled.

 

CYCLONE LOCATION

 

At 11am Ex Tropical Cyclone (TC) Laurence was estimated to be 265 kilometres west of Giles and 185 kilometres north northwest of Warburton.

 

Ex TC Laurence has weakened and is moving southeast at 30 kilometres per hour.

 

Wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour and heavy rainfall between 50 to 100mm are still possible in Giles, Warburton and surrounding areas during this afternoon and evening.

 

ROAD CLOSURES

 

Ripon Hills Road is closed to all vehicles.

 

Marble Bar Road from Nullagine to the Jigalong turnoff then to the end of the gravel section (17 kilometres north of Newman) is closed to trucks.

 

Motorists should take care and not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
