Bushfire All Clear for Hacketts Gully near Bickley

ALERT LEVEL:

An ALL CLEAR advice has been issued for people in Hacketts Gully near Bickely. The bushfire is now under control however people should remain vigilant in case the situation changes.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Crews are currently mopping up and will monitor the area for the rest of the night.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

No roads are closed however motorists in the area should take extreme caution as there may still be smoke across some roads and fire and other emergency services personnel who are continuing their work.

INCIDENT INFORMATION:

More than 40 Department of Environment and Conservation firefighters and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters from seven brigades have been busy since 1.35pm protecting lives and homes.

 

They were supported by two helitacs, a Type 1 helicopter and two fixed wing water bombers operating from the air.

 

Firefighters have worked hard to get the fire under control and managed to save several homes on Bahen Road.

 

It is estimated eight hectares were burnt.

 

The bushfire started from a burnt out vehicle near Walnut Road. People are encouraged to report suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
