Bushfire All Clear for South Coast Highway east of Albany
Wednesday 13 January 2010 – 12:00 PM

ALERT LEVEL:

An ALL CLEAR advice has been issued for people travelling along South Coast Highway near Cheyne Beach Road 50km east of Albany.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) crews and local volunteer bushfire brigades are currently mopping up and will leave the area safe.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

All roads are now open.

 

Motorists in the area should take care as there may still be smoke across some roads in the area and fire and other emergency services personnel are continuing their work.

 

POWER SUPPLY:

All power has now been restored.

 

INCIDENT INFORMATION:

The fire has burnt 660 hectares. There was no damage to private property.

 

DEC greatly appreciates the support and assistance of local volunteer bushfire brigades, FESA, private contractors, WA Police, Main Roads WA and Western Power.

 

The cause of the fire is being investigated. People are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

 

No further media statements will be issued unless the situation changes.
