Bushfire ALL CLEAR for Cockburn Central
Wednesday 13 January 2010 – 6:35 PM

ALERT LEVEL:

A bushfire ALL CLEAR ADVICE has been issued for people in the southern part of Cockburn Central (near Beeliar and Success) including people on Hammond Road, Beeliar Drive and The Crest.

 

This includes the Beeliar Drive area between Hammond Road and Lakeridge Drive.

 

The bushfire is contained and under control and there are no lives or homes threatened by the fire.

 

Although there is no immediate danger you need to keep up to date in case the situation changes.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Crews are mopping up to leave the area safe. They will monitor the area into the night.

 

WHAT TO DO:

People should remain vigilant in case the situation changes.

 

People living in the area need to be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site and take their advice.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

There were approximately 30 firefighters involved in containing the fire. These included career Fire and Rescue Service crews from Success, Murdoch and Hope Valley as well as volunteer Bush Fire Brigade crews from Jandakot, Mandogalup and South Coogee.

 

FESA was alerted to the fire at 4.32pm today.

 

Firefighters were supported by two helitacs and one water bomber operating from the air. These are no longer required and have returned to base in accordance with aviation regulations.

 

Firefighters have worked hard to get the fire contained and under control and have saved twelve homes.

 

It is estimated one hectare was burnt. There was no damage to homes but minor damage to fences in the area.

 

People are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

Beeliar Drive between Hammond Road and The Crest will reopen by 7.30pm.

 

Further clarification should be sought from WA Police or Main Roads WA on 138 138.
