Total Fire Ban for Perth Hills area
Friday 26 February 2010 – 8:00 PM
A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Perth Hills area including the City of Swan, Shire of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring, Shire of Armadale, City of Gosnells and Shire of Serpentine/Jarrahdale. For the twenty four hour period starting 12.00am on Saturday 27 February through to 12.00am Sunday 28 February 2010 any activity that could start a fire is banned. That means if you live in the above shires: • you must not move vehicles or equipment across a paddock • you must not harvest • you must not cook outside using an open fire • ‘hot work’ such as metal work, grinding or the like is not allowed unless you have an exemption Ensuring the safety and welfare of people or animals (such as watering stock) has an automatic exemption, though a fire unit must accompany the activity. You could be fined up to $25000 or jailed for 12 months or both if you ignore the Total Fire Ban. This information is also available by calling 1300 657 209 or visiting www.fesa.wa.gov.au END Media Contact: Media and Public Affairs, 9225 5955.
