Bush fire warning for Gnarabup / Prevelly area, Margaret River

FESA advises a bush fire is burning in the southeast corner of the Gnarabup / Prevelly area in

There is a possible threat to lives and homes. Fire crews are protecting homes in Baudin Drive.

People who live between Rainbow Cave Road and Baudin Drive who have decided to stay at home should prepare for the bush fire.

If you have decided to leave early or are not prepared for the fire you should leave now.

A relocation point has been set up at the Margaret River Cultural Centre, which can be accessed from Walcliff Road.

If you live in the area, you should:

·           Close all doors and windows
·           Turn off evaporative air-conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible

FESA was alerted to the fire at 2.55pm and currently there has been 20 hectares burnt.

45 career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters are on the scene.

Emergency services personnel from WA Police and Department of Environment and Conservation are working with FESA.

A number of roads have been closed including:

  • Walcliff Road at Caves Road has been closed to inbound traffic
  • Rainbow Cave Road
  • Wilderness Road closed at Caves Road

Motorists should avoid the area. Further clarification should be sought from WA Police or Main Roads WA on 138 138.
