Could you be a 2010 Australian Safer Communities Awards winner
Wednesday 12 May 2010 – 1:00 PM

If there is a local community group, business or individual who is working to make your community safer now is the time to acknowledge their valuable contribution.

Nominations are open for the 2010 Australian Safer Communities Awards that recognise innovative practice in the building of safer, stronger and better prepared communities across Australia.

Acting FESA Chief Executive Officer John Butcher said the awards recognised people throughout the State who were working to prepare communities for emergency situations.

“Western Australia regularly faces a range of emergencies, so ensuring communities are well prepared to deal with them and recover quickly is vitally important,” he said.

“These prestigious awards highlight the many worthwhile projects where government, community groups and the private sector have worked to improve the resilience of our communities.

“Past award winners are now recognised throughout the emergency management sector for their exceptional achievement and professional standing.”

Sponsored by Emergency Management Australia and coordinated in WA by FESA, the Australian Safer Communities Awards cover all aspects of community safety with an emergency management focus.

This includes risk assessment, research, education and training, information and knowledge management, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

Entries must relate to projects that commenced after 1 January 2008 or relate to existing projects with significant enhancements or outcomes since 1 January 2008. Entries close Friday 2 July 2010.

Visit www.fesa.wa.gov.au for more information about the awards or call the WA Awards Coordinator on 9323 9819.
