Natural disaster relief available for residents affected by severe bushfire weather event in Perth and surrounding areas
Monday 7 February 2011 – 11:45 AM

Bushfires in Perth and surrounding areas that have caused damage to property have been confirmed as eligible for disaster assistance.

The Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett said that the severity of the fire damage met the criteria to be declared an Eligible Natural Disaster for the purposes of the Western Australia Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (WANDRRA).

The local government districts affected by the bushfires include City of Armadale, City of Canning, Shire of Chittering, Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale and City of Swan.

WANDRRA is administered by FESA, with assistance from other agencies, and provides help to people who have suffered the direct impact of a declared natural disaster.

The relief arrangements will provide the immediate welfare, food, shelter, clothing, accommodation and medical items to those who need it.

Those who have lost their homes will be accommodated for the immediate future.

Depending on an individuals means and/or insurance coverage some essential household contents and repairs to make safe and habitable can be provided.

Assistance through WANDRRA may also be available for primary producers, local governments and businesses.
