Firefighters from the Belmont Fire Station will attend the Jacaranda Community Centre’s NAIDOC week celebrations tomorrow.
Firefighters will reinforce safety messages to the local community as part of a joint awareness initiative about staying safe during winter.
FESA and the Jacaranda Community Centre have previously collaborated over the publication Fire Safety in Your Home, which provides Aboriginal families with information about what to do to prevent fire in their home and how to escape a fire.
Michael Lovell from the Belmont Fire Station says NAIDOC week celebrations are a great way to connect with the community and everyone should be aware of how to stay safe during winter.
“Myself and three other firefighters from the Belmont Station will be at Jacaranda’s celebrations of NAIDOC week,” he says.
“It’s a great opportunity for firefighters to have a presence in the community and inform Aboriginal people in particular, how to keep safe in their home.
“FESA and the Jacaranda Community Centre have a great relationship and work together to ensure people of all backgrounds improve their personal safety in the home,” Michael says.
NAIDOC week runs from 3 to 10 July and this year’s theme is ‘it’s our future – change: the next step is ours’.
The Jacaranda Community Centre’s NAIDOC week celebrations are on Tuesday July 5 from 10am to 2pm.
