Kununurra firefighting resources bolstered with new pump
Wednesday 27 July 2011 – 3:15 PM

Kununurra Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service is now better equipped to fight fires after receiving a new $105,000 light tanker appliance that enhances the crew’s capabilities to respond quickly to emergencies.

East Kimberley District Manager Tony Stevenson said that the new light tanker has an increased capacity and uses water more efficiently.

“The old Kununurra appliance was nearing the end of service life,” Mr Stevenson said.

“The new appliance has the latest firefighting equipment for the Kununurra crew.

“It can pump 180 litres of water per minute which is a significant improvement over its predecessor.

“This appliance also has many safety features that will make responding safer with the increased braking and handling capabilities not available when the old appliance was built.”

The replacement of the old pump is thanks to FESA’s Capital Works Investment Program.

Residents are reminded that record rain has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of vegetation in the Kimberley region this dry season.

One third of the Kimberley is impacted by bushfires every year so residents and travellers need to be vigilant.

“You can play your part by reducing the amount of vegetation around your property and ensuring you have a bushfire survival plan”
