The following media releases has been issued by the Department of Parks and Wildlife
Alert current from 13 November 2013 until further notice
Bushfire alerts will no longer be issued for this fire, unless the situation changes
The Department of Parks and Wildlife has issued a smoke alert for people near Tordit-Gurrup Lagoon in Lake Muir Nature Reserve in the Shire of Manjimup.
It is likely that the fire will smoulder for several months.
This is a peat fire, which is a build-up of decaying plant matter that forms in wetlands, and because peat burns underground it is near impossible to extinguish.
If smoke is particularly thick, it is recommended people shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory, cardiovascular illnesses or diabetes should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
Smoke may reduce visibility on some roads and motorists should take care, turn on headlights and travel at appropriate speeds when travelling in these areas.
People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.
