Take action for your family and community this Bushfire Action Week
Monday 20 October 2014 – 10:25 AM

This week is Bushfire Action Week (18 to 25 October 2014) when the Western Australian community is called on to prepare their families and properties ahead of the bushfire season.

Over the weekend community events were held and the State Government launched the 2014 Are You Ready? bushfire campaign.

Local community events are being held throughout the week that will assist people preparing for the bushfire season, including bushfire information displays, community forums and street meets.

These community events are a great opportunity for neighbours to get together and discuss what they will do if a bushfire threatens their area, with career and volunteer firefighters on hand to provide advice and answer questions.

During the week everyone is encouraged to sit down with their families and roommates and create or review their bushfire survival plan that outlines what they will do in a bushfire.

It is also critical that people prepare their properties, with a well prepared property having a better chance of surviving a bushfire. Simple actions include pruning back trees, cutting long grass and clearing roof gutters.
