Response from DFES to reports about closing fire stations during Winter
Reports have appeared in today's media that the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) is considering closing fire stations at night during winter.
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Wayne Gregson this afternoon said:
“I've had assurances from the Minister that budget cuts will not affect frontline service delivery. In this light, there are no moves whatsoever to shut fire stations.”
“In these tight economic times, it is inevitable that as a government department, we will have serious and tough choices to make into the future.”
“It is my responsibility to be prepared for any potential efficiency measures and carefully consider how to maintain our services to the community.”
