*Please note Coral Bay is now open to non-residents as of 6.00am on Wednesday 18 March 2015
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has directed all non-residents to leave Coral Bay immediately for their safety and to enable emergency services to restore services to the town.
DFES Assistant Commissioner Darren Klemm said the safety of the community is DFES’s upmost priority.
“There has been significant damaged caused in Coral Bay, with fallen trees and debris across the road, creating dangerous hazards,” Assistant Commissioner Klemm said.
“It is essential non-residents leave the area for their own safety and to allow emergency services to restore services to the town as quickly as possible.
“Additional SES crews have been deployed to Coral Bay this morning to assist with the clean-up, and the community is being urged to be patient while the recovery efforts continue.”
Coral Bay will be closed to non-residents until the area has been declared safe. These powers have been enacted following the declaration of an Emergency Situation under the Emergency Management Act.
