Bushfire All Clear for Brand Highway, North of Badgingarra
Friday 4 December 2009 – 3:55 PM

ALERT LEVEL:

An ALL CLEAR advice has been issued for the northern part of Badgingarra, for three separate fires that started yesterday in close proximity north of the town site near Boothendarra Road and Watheroo Track. The bushfires are now under control. People should remain vigilant in case the situation changes.

 

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Crews are currently mopping up and will monitor the area for the rest of the day and night.

 

Firefighters have also cut down dangerous trees along roads.

 

ROAD CLOSURES:

Brand Highway remains open.  

 

Motorists travelling on the Brand Highway and local roads may come across some smoke from the fires.

 

People in the area should be aware of emergency services personnel working on site and take their advice

INCIDENT INFORMATION:

Firefighters have been busy working at the fires since 10am yesterday.

 

Bushfire brigades from local shires, along with emergency services personnel from the Department of Environment and Conservation and FESA worked with the Shire of Dandaragan to bring the fire under control.  

 

They were supported by two water bombers operating from the air.

 

It is estimated 600 hectares were burnt. Crops to the value of approximately $30,000 were also lost and there were minor losses to fencing and water piping.

 

The cause of the fires is being investigated and people are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
