The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has updated its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and is seeking public feedback.
The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2020-2025 provides a framework for DFES to identify barriers to access and inclusion and develop strategies to minimise or remove these barriers.
DFES is committed to providing safe and inclusive environments for everyone.
This plan will benefit all people including people with disability, the elderly, young parents and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and the wider DFES community.
Video and Media Assistant, Mel Hawkes, has worked with DFES for 16 years and said it was important to ensure everyone who is employed by DFES or visits one of its facilities feels included.
“The Cockburn Emergency Services Complex is great and is one of the best I’ve worked at,” Mel said. “The plan is really important to ensure we are being inclusive for all groups, no matter their ability.”
“It’s really encouraging that DFES is welcoming public feedback and comment and even the smallest things should be considered.”
Feedback can be provided by emailing inclusion@dfes.wa.gov.au by Friday 23 October 2020.
