Emergency Service Cadet Corps Awards

The awards provide the opportunity to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the ESCC program, DFES and/or their local community, through their actions, programs or initiatives.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is proud to be the host organisation for the ESCC program and we are keen to continue to strengthen the connection between cadets, their instructors and our adult volunteers.

All awards have been presented at each of the school’s end of year cadet graduation ceremonies in December. ESCC Awards were presented across five categories:

Cadet Achievement Award

Kyle Bravington, Tom Price Senior High School Emergency Services Cadet Corps

The ESCC Cadet Achievement Award for 2015 recognizes a cadet who has inspired other young people to participate in the program, made a positive change or developed a new initiative which benefits the cadet unit, or has been involved in a community awareness or hazard prevention program.

Kyle has been an active cadet member since 2012, embracing the cadet corps in such a way that has both inspired younger cadets and impressed instructors at a local, regional and state level. Kyle has grown into an active, supportive Leader with a passion for helping the community.

Instructor Achievement Award

Emma Todd, Ocean Reef Senior High School Emergency Services Cadet Corps

Emma is in her third year as a Cadet instructor after graduating as a Deputy Cadet Unit Leader.

Emma’s efforts in building and maintaining strong links with local volunteer emergency services for the delivery of emergency services technical training, resources and expertise to cadets have been outstanding. Emma also volunteers her time as an Instructor with Kingsway Christian College ESCC Unit.

Emma has shown outstanding commitment to the Ocean Reef Senior High School ESCC unit, and spends many hours outside the normal meeting times attending meetings and training nights with community Emergency Services. It is because of this commitment that Emma has been awarded Instructor Achievement Award.

ESCC Unit Achievement Award for 2015

Tom Price Senior High School Emergency Services Cadet Corps (ESCC) Unit

The Cadet Unit Achievement Award recognises an ESCC unit who has taken action by giving cadets a voice in important decisions, bringing cadets and local brigades together, by getting young people involved in the emergency services community, building and maintaining strong links with local volunteer emergency services and addressing an emergency services need or issue.

Tom Price Senior High School ESCC Unit has demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to its cadets by delivering outstanding training to young people participating in the program which is current, realistic and transferrable, in turn growing a contemporary cadet corps. The ESCC unit, via the cadets, also proactively engages with the community in delivering emergency services education campaigns on cyclone hazard preparedness and safety in conjunction with the SES.

Host School Achievement Award for 2015

Tom Price Senior High School

This category recognises a host school that has made an outstanding contribution by their significant support of the ESCC program such as building the capacity of the Unit Leader and Instructors to deliver a contemporary skill based program, or raising the profile of the ESCC unit within the school and community.

Tom Price Senior High School has been associated with the Tom Price Cadet Unit since 2000. During this time the school has always supported Emergency Service Volunteers and the cadet unit with 7 school staff involved in running the ESCC unit.

The school also provides clerical time to enable the paperwork, acquittals, financial reports and parent letters and community articles to be completed. Without this extra support the unit would not run as smoothly and efficiently as it does today.

The school is committed to promoting the cadet unit to the wider community and openly supports the cadet unit’s involvement in parent nights, information evenings and community events.

The School works side by side with the cadet unit in promoting the values and benefits of students being part of the Tom Price ESCC.

Tom Price Senior High School is to be commended for the outstanding support it provides to the ESCC Unit.

Brigade/Group/Unit Achievement Award

Bunbury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service

This category recognises a Brigade, Group or Unit that’s made an important contribution to the ongoing development of cadets and instructors in the ESCC by providing fire and emergency services technical training, resources and expertise, and fostering a partnership between a cadet unit and brigade for the purpose of encouraging the transition of young people from ESCC to adult volunteering in emergency services.

The recipient of this award has provided this type of support to Grace Christian School Emergency Services Cadet Corps since its inception in 2014.

Their actions were considered outstanding because of the brigade members;

  • Willingness to be involved
  • Preparation of high quality training equipping cadets with relevant and contemporary information
  • Provision of large numbers of eager volunteers that are well trained including senior members
  • Provision at times of multiple appliances
  • Well prepared training sessions with quality delivery
  • The degree of mentoring provided in the way of guidance for our program

Large numbers of students are now keen to join the cadet unit as they can see the practical nature of the activities that are taking place and a number of these cadets are now interested in taking part in volunteer opportunities in the emergency services.

The actions of the brigade themselves, demonstrate to the cadets a community spirit and a willingness to dedicate time and effort to something worthwhile and encourages the cadets to serve others.

Bunbury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service are to be commended for the outstanding support it provides to the Grace Christian School ESCC Unit.
