Volunteer Training

Volunteer Firefighter Training

DFES provides training for Fire and Rescue Service volunteers, Volunteer Fire and Emrgency Services and local government Bush Fire Brigade Service in WA and ensures that there is a uniform level of training for firefighters to undertake operations safely, efficiently and confidently.

Volunteer Firefighters Training includes:

  • Introduction to Firefighting
  • Introduction to Bush Fire Firefighting
  • Advanced Bush Fire Firefighting
  • Structural Firefighting
  • Breathing Apparatus
  • Road Crash Rescue
  • On-Road and Off-Road Driving
  • Crew Leader Bush Fire

State Emergency Service

DFES trains State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers and staff to efficiently respond to the effects of storms, floods and cyclones.

SES volunteers may also be trained to undertake road crash rescue, land and air searches and land rescues (such as cliff and cave rescues).

SES volunteer training includes:

  • First aid
  • Map reading and navigation
  • Land search techniques
  • Storm damage techniques
  • Flood boat rescue
  • Radio communications
  • Leadership
  • Road crash rescue

 

Volunteer Marine Rescue Service

DFES develops and delivers training for Volunteer Marine Rescue Services (VMRS) volunteers including:

  • Occupational safety and health at sea
  • Marine radio operation
  • Coastal navigation
  • Radar
  • Work team communications
  • Engineering knowledge
  • First aid
