There are several ways you can support communities and individuals affected by natural disasters, as well as emergency services volunteers.
DFES does not generally accept financial donations directly. However, you can support recovery efforts, volunteer welfare and animal care through recognised organisations and assistance programs.
DFES accepts some vehicle donations for training purposes.
To donate an old car, phone DFES on 9395 9300 and we will arrange for the vehicle to be collected and delivered to the Fire and Emergency Services Academy.
You can support communities affected by natural disasters through the following organisations:
Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund
Supporting community recovery since 1961.
Supporting Australian disaster relief.
Helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
The Volunteer Hardship Assistance Scheme provides financial assistance to emergency services volunteers during times of hardship.
You may also wish to contact your local volunteer brigade, group or unit to ask how you can support them:
Visit the DFES contact page to find your nearest brigade, group or unit.
Animals, including pets, wildlife and livestock, can also be affected by natural disasters.
RSPCA WA can assist with the care of affected animals and the management of animal rescue operations in fire-affected areas.
Be aware of donation scams. Sometimes scammers impersonate genuine charities or contact people claiming to collect money for relief efforts after natural disasters. Before making a donation, check that the charity is registered. You can search for licensed charities in Western Australia through Consumer Protection WA. You can also search the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Charity Register.
